Another week has passed us by, my how time flies. Last week was a bit of a bummer for me because I was still stuck in my plateau, and while I was totally fine with how things were going, there is nothing quite as satisfying (except for when new clothes fit) than seeing the scales move in the right direction. Going in to today, I knew that there was a good chance of me still being in this plateau. I have changed several things during this past week, and I was hoping that it wold have shaken things back up again. Read on to find out what happened.
Hallelujah, the scales finally moved
Let me tell you, I was so happy this morning after seeing the scales drop. After 6 weeks of nothing, I finally dropped 0.9lbs. My new weight is 229.8lbs and my BMI has dropped to 30.3, which means I am just 0.3 points away from moving out of the Obese category for the fist time in my adult life.
So what did I change during this past week. Well I have slowed down when it comes to the amount of exercise I have been doing. Between P90X, Turbo Jam, and running, I was wearing myself out, not to mention the fact that I was not fueling my body well enough for that much physical exertion, and that is why the plateau lasted so long. My poor body thought it was going to starve to death. I also upped my caloric intake. While I have not gone overboard, I did make sure that I was eating toward my upper limits for each day. By cutting back on the workouts, and by increasing calories, by body restored itself to full fat burning power.
This week has been much the same as last so far. I am now doing a hybrid of P90X and Turbo Jam, so one day is p90X and the next is Turbo Jam and not both on the same day, and I am running every other day as well. I think this will be happy balance for a while, and we will see what kind of results I get from doing these workouts. I do not plan on dropping my caloric intake just yet, because I still have such a high caloric burn from the workouts.
I am really excited with how things are going across the board. My half marathon training is going well so far, and I am enjoying being outside during the brisk morning hours. and I am excited that I am now in phase 3 of P90X. I have seen some pretty incredible results by using that program as you can see in the graphic below, my overall fat % has dropped by almost 3%, while my chest has grown considerably.
Tomorrow morning will see me hit the running track again. 3 miles run tomorrow and I am pumped up about it. I will write about the run after I get back. Hopefully by this time next week I will no longer be considered obese on the BMI chart. Thanks to everyone for all of your continued support. I hope everyone has an amazing day.
All the best,
Brett
