Socks play a critical role in your overall comfort when running, or when doing any activity that sees you on your feet for a prolonged period. Socks act as a buffer between your feet and your shoes, and when you wear the right pair, the chances of you suffering from blisters goes down immensely, but now research has shown that compression socks are so much better for you while running. I have been fortunate enough to receive a pair of Injinji Ex-Celerator compression socks to review, and here are my thoughts about them.
What makes Injinji Ex-Celerators different?
Before I tried these Injinji compression socks, I already knew that socks played a massive role in comfort while running. I use to run in just regular socks, and always used to suffer with very bad blisters. After a friend of mine told me about running socks, I decided to give them a chance, and to be honest I was blown away at the difference they made.
The Injinji Ex-Celerator socks are very unique, and are unlike any sock I have ever seen before. The Ex-Celerators are toe socks, which is something new to me. They basically remind me of gloves, but for your feet. There are some major benefits to wearing toe socks like this. When the toes are separated, the chance for blisters between the toes (something I have always suffered with) diminishes greatly, and while it may take a little while to get used to having your toes separated, you will soon love the way that they feel.
Compression socks offer so many benefits over regular socks. Research has shown that compression socks help fuel circulation of blood from the legs back to the heart while exercising, and they can reduce the effects of delayed onset muscle soreness (which is something we can all cheer about) While all of this sounds great, do the Ex-Celerators really make that big of a difference in real world settings? Lets find out.
Road Test
I have worn these socks over the course of 6 runs and I can honestly say that I never knew it was possible to love a pair of socks as much as I love these.
Off the bat you will find that it takes a little while to put these socks on, but once you have all of the toes positioned correctly in their individual sleeves, you will immediately feel just how comfortable these socks are. The amount of support from your toes, all the way up to your knee feels incredible.
The Ex-Celerators feature a graduated compression profile, which means that wearing these socks feels like wearing a second skin. The mix of Lycra, Cool Max, and Nylon fibers make the socks hug and support your feet and legs like no other, and while running the Cool Max technology helps keep your feet bone dry. The socks stay in place and do not slip or skid around at all, not matter how hard your push yourself. I usually blister pretty easily, even when wearing running socks, but I have not had one blister since wearing the Ex-Celerators, and I have also noticed that my legs do not feel as fatigued as much after a run.
There is no doubt in my mind that the Ex-Celerators from Injinji are some of the best socks available on the market today, but at $38 a pop they are not cheap. Even though they cost $38 they are worth every penny, and the pro’s definitely out weight the cons.
If you normally suffer with blisters between the toes, or anywhere on your feet, or if you suffer with muscle soreness after a run, then you owe it to yourself to check out the Ex-Celerators. You will be amazed at the amount of support they offer, and how much enjoyment they can put back in to running, walking and hiking.

I don’t think I’d be able to wear the toe socks because I have short, fat toes and I think if something like this didn’t fit perfectly, it would be worse for blisters instead of better. I do want to try regular compression socks or sleeves, though, as I think it will help with my shins.
I always thought cotton socks were best for running in, and I’ve recently found different and still looking for the best socks for me.
I have short, fat toes too, and honestly they fit perfectly. It takes a short amount of time to get the positioned correctly, but it is so worth taking the time to do it because the difference they make is unbelievable.
