Today I ran for the second time during my C25K training. technically day of my training was supposed to be yesterday but my calf muscles hurt so much from the first day that I decided to wait and let them rest, the last thing I want to do is cause injury when I am just getting started. I was really looking forward to my run today, and I am very happy with what I accomplished on only my second day of training. As I sit here and write this I am filled with hope and I cannot wait to run that race on April 29th. Click on to read about how the run wen today.
After strapping on my running shoes and getting my Robert Ullery C25K podcast’s ready to go I went outside and was met by a brisk Oklahoma wind. It certainly made things a little chilly this morning with wind chills down to 30 degrees F, but the sun was shinning and overall it was a beautiful day for a run. Right from the get go I could feel a little pain in my calf muscles from the first day of running, but after a minute or two of warming up the muscle soreness went away.
I actually found today’s run much easier than day one. I did not seem to tire as quickly as I did on Wednesday, and I felt like I have more energy. I do not know if this is possible after only one days worth of doing the C25K program, but I certainly felt better. On day one I tired quickly and was ready to throw in the towel after the 5th interval but today I found myself wanting to carry on, and I did not reach that point until the 8th and final interval.
Today I walked/ran for a total of 1.9 miles, which is an increase of 1/4 compared to day one, and I burnt 373 calories, and I actually feel like I earned them today. Upon completion, while I was out of breath, I did not feel like I was going to keel over like I did on Wednesday, so I am taking all of this as a big success. I a honestly looking forward to day week 1 day 3, which will be on Monday. I now have a goal to reach and have something I can measure myself against.
My 5K run is now just 57 days away but I am feeling optimistic about my chances of completing the run. I cannot wait to cross that finish line.
Have a great weekend,
Brett

My wife and I also started the program, recently. I’ve been shocked at how fast I am gaining endurance. I really worried that it would be a slog…but the hardest part isn’t the run, it’s making sure I show up for the runs! Best luck to you!
How far into the program are you Matt? Are you finding it easier as you progress? I m really excited about the program and cannot wait to do day 3 tomorrow morning. Thanks so much for stopping by, and thanks for your support.
All the best,
Brett
We are in week three. So far, it’s been going very well.
However, I wouldn’t say it gets “easier” as the running segments keep getting longer. But the program we are using is consistent, so I haven’t felt like the program suddenly threw me out the window because the intensity or duration suddenly lept disproportionally.
It’s true the there are times when I’m only moving during a running segment because I’m willing myself to do it…
…but my comfort with the program is increased AND but we are both noticing the aerobic benefits while doing day-to-day activities(climbing stairs is a good example).
I think these, combined, make it easier to get through the tough because the benefits are starting to show and my own anxiety about running is fading as each successful lap is logged.
I’m doing C25K as well and find it easier as each day goes… I remember in the beginning feeling like I was going to DIE! Now I sometimes run a little extra. While running around my gated community here, I have to pass the gym 3 times… They are all cozy and dry and warm in there… I’m running in the rain and it’s 40 degrees… as I go by, drenched, yet satisfied, I think that treadmills are for sissies
